People Power Party Stresses "Livelihood Economy" at Seoul Station
Democratic Party Sees Off Travelers at Seoul Express Bus Terminal
On the 24th, a day before the Lunar New Year holiday, the ruling and opposition party leadership will greet travelers at Seoul Station and Seoul Express Bus Terminal, respectively. As this is the first holiday since the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol, both parties are expected to keenly monitor public sentiment during the holiday period.
Gwon Young-se, Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the People Power Party, and Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader, along with other ruling party leaders, will gather at Seoul Station in the morning to see off citizens heading home. The People Power Party traditionally greeted travelers at Seoul Station, the departure point of the Gyeongbu Line heading to Busan-Gyeongnam (PK) and Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK), where conservative party supporters are concentrated.
The leadership plans to wear sashes bearing the phrases "Happy New Year" and "Empower the Economy, Empower the People." The People Power Party explained that this was to emphasize their commitment to focusing on the livelihood economy as part of party reform following the impeachment. After the greetings, the leadership will visit the 'Ongi Warehouse' and 'Donghaeng Restaurant' in the Seoul Station shantytown. Ongi Warehouse is a food market where shantytown residents can select and take daily necessities and food items themselves. Donghaeng Restaurant is a dining facility where residents can choose their preferred menu and have one meal a day.
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Park Chan-dae, floor leader, along with other party leaders, will greet travelers at the express bus terminal located in Banpo-dong, Seoul, in the morning. This is the first time Lee Jae-myung’s leadership has chosen the Seoul Express Bus Terminal instead of Yongsan Station, which is concentrated with the Honam Line, for the New Year’s greetings. It is known within the party that this decision was made considering threats of terrorism by some conservative extremists. They also took into account the characteristics of the express bus terminal, which serves departures to Honam and Gyeongbu.
The leadership plans to wear sashes with the phrases "Korea Running Again" and "A New Year Full of Hope" to see off travelers. They will also launch attacks against President Yoon, including impeachment trials. The Democratic Party’s Seoul branch prepared a banner reading "People Power Party, Stop Inciting Rebellion!" The leadership of the Innovation Party will see off travelers at Yongsan Station, and Heo Eun-ah, leader of the Reform New Party, will do so at Yeongdeungpo Station.
