Ulsan City to Provide Grandchild Care Allowance Starting March

Households with 150% or Less of Median Income
Grandparents (Including Maternal Grandparents) Caring for 2-Year-Old Infants

Ulsan City will provide a caregiving allowance for grandparents (including maternal grandparents) taking care of 2-year-old infants starting from March this year.

The caregiving allowance targets grandparents (including maternal grandparents) who care for 2-year-old infants in households residing in Ulsan with a median income of 150% or less.

However, families with dual incomes, single parents, or multiple children who receive similar caregiving support such as childcare fees or full-day child care services due to caregiving gaps are excluded.

Based on 40 hours of caregiving, support is provided up to 300,000 KRW per month; if caring for two infants, up to 450,000 KRW, and for three or more infants, up to 600,000 KRW.

The allowance is directly deposited into the grandparents’ (including maternal grandparents’) bank accounts, but if the grandparents are not Ulsan residents, the payment is made to the parents’ accounts.

To ensure smooth implementation of this system, Ulsan City will operate a concentrated application period until February 7.

Families who entrust their 2-year-old infants born between March 2022 and March 2023 to grandparents (including maternal grandparents) can apply by visiting their local eup, myeon, or dong administrative welfare center from the 1st to the 15th of the month when the child turns 23 months old.

An official from Ulsan City stated, “Through this project, families in childcare blind spots can receive caregiving allowances,” adding, “We will continue to develop and expand various policies to create a city that is good for raising children and a family-friendly environment where parents and children are happy.”

Selected grandparents (including maternal grandparents) must attend a separate training session at the end of February to receive the caregiving allowance after caregiving activities begin in March.
