17th Anniversary Sogang Library Filled with Various Commemorative Events

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) Public Seogang Library is celebrating its 17th anniversary by presenting a commemorative event throughout February under the theme of ‘Empathy’.

The commemorative event is richly prepared with lectures and puppet shows that can be attended through online pre-registration, as well as exhibitions and events that anyone can enjoy.

On February 12 at 7 PM in the 3rd floor seminar room, the ‘Library Invitation’ event will be held, where attendees can meet the author in person.

On this day, popular author Choi Eun-young, who wrote the books Bright Night and Shoko’s Smile, will give a lecture titled ‘Even with a Very Faint Light,’ discussing the theme of empathy.

At the same time, in the 4th floor children’s reading room, picture book author Kim Hyun-rye will personally conduct a family puppet show titled The Octopus’s Journey, warmly welcoming children.

At Seogang Library, you can also meet Shakespeare. The lecture ‘The Joy and Sorrow of Others,’ exploring William Shakespeare’s representative works with Professor Lee Hyun-woo from Soonchunhyang University, was selected by Seogang Library users through voting as a humanities lecture.

Participants in the lecture will reflect on human suffering and empathize with others’ emotions through Shakespeare’s works A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, gaining feelings of love and hope for a new society.

In particular, this lecture is highly anticipated as it offers a multidimensional look at Shakespeare’s theatrical art, crossing between text and performance.

The ‘The Joy and Sorrow of Others’ lecture will be held every Thursday at 7 PM from February 6 to February 27, for a total of four sessions.

Additionally, from February 15 to February 17, Seogang Library will hold events open to everyone, such as ‘Find Seogang!’ and ‘Borrowing Books Was a Stroke of Luck’ in the children’s reading room and the general reading room.

Also, in the children’s reading room, to celebrate the library’s birthday, an original art exhibition including works like How We Eat Cake and a coloring event will be held throughout February.

For detailed information about program registration and participation in the commemorative events, please check the Seogang Library website or contact them by phone.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “To mark the 17th anniversary of Seogang Library, we have prepared various programs under the theme of ‘Empathy’ to get one step closer to our residents. We ask for active participation in the Seogang Library opening events, and Mapo-gu will strive to ensure more residents can spend meaningful time at the library.”
