Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 23rd that it held the first monthly meeting of the Residents' Autonomy Council for 2025 at Yeoyudang, preparing for a new leap forward through the election of new executives.

Through this meeting, Jang Tae-sik, the chairman of the Residents' Autonomy Committee of Byeollae-myeon, was elected as the council chairman, with Kwon Soon-wook and Lee Jin-gyu elected as vice-chairmen, Yoon Young-kyu and Han Wang-hee as auditors, and Choi Young-gyun as secretary-general. The executive team will lead the development of residents' autonomy for the next two years.


Mayor Joo Gwang-deok stated, “Residents' autonomy is the greatest asset for the development of Namyangju City, and the Residents' Autonomy Council is an important organization that serves as a bridge connecting the city and its residents.” He added, “Inspired by Jeong Yak-yong, we hope that residents' autonomy will play a central role in enabling Namyangju to achieve super growth as a future-oriented self-sufficient city, based on the pride of being a 'livable city that awakens imagination.'”


Jang Tae-sik, newly elected as the council chairman, said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the local community and residents' autonomy,” and added, “I will do my best to establish a clear direction for residents' autonomy and achieve significant progress.”


The city plans to continuously implement various policies to realize residents' autonomy led by the residents themselves, including support for residents' autonomy councils and committees, operation of education for residents' autonomy committee members, and discovery of unique projects for each eup, myeon, and dong.


In particular, through the newly established “Residents' Autonomy Academy with Jeong Yak-yong” this year, the city plans to provide systematic and professional education that reinterprets the philosophy of Jeong Yak-yong, thereby further strengthening residents' autonomy capabilities.
