Busan Research Institute Announces Call for 'Busan Studies Research Projects'... Deadline February 12

Recruitment of Researchers in Three Fields: General Knowledge, Citizen, and Research Series

The Busan Research Institute's Busan Studies Research Center is inviting researchers interested in the region to submit proposals for the "2025 Busan Studies Research Projects" from the 23rd to February 12th.

The fields include three categories: General Knowledge, Citizen, and Research Series projects.

This year, two topics are proposed for each series, and one topic will be selected from each, ensuring opportunities for diverse researchers to participate.

The General Knowledge series topics are "Busan's A.P.T" and "80th Anniversary of Liberation, Return of Overseas Koreans and Busan."

The first topic focuses on examining the lifestyle culture of Busan's residential styles through apartments, which constitute a large part of Busan's current housing. Proposals should focus on lifestyle research linked to Busan citizens' residential culture and housing styles, including changes in Busan's residential culture based on apartments, apartments reflecting Busan's terrain and regional characteristics, and the future of apartments.

The second topic, selected to mark the 80th anniversary of liberation in 2025, deals with the hardships and life histories of returning overseas Koreans who chose Busan. It involves capturing the traces of returning overseas Koreans living in Busan and their lives today.

The Citizen series topics are "Struggles of Foreign Students in Busan" and "Busan's Alcohol and Citizens' Lives."

The first topic covers the lives of foreign students living in Busan, a global hub city. Proposals should present future-oriented content about foreign students living alongside Busan citizens and ways to continuously progress together with the region.

The second Citizen series topic examines Busan's alcohol reflecting the daily lives of Busan citizens and the region's identity. It involves exploring cultural phenomena surrounding Busan's alcohol, the status of local alcoholic beverages, and their future.

The Research series topics are "Exploring the Origins of Busan Politics in an Era of Democratic Crisis" and "Changes in Bukhang and the Lives of Busan Citizens on the 150th Anniversary of Busan Port's Opening."

The first topic studies the restoration and potential of Busan politics based on its past and present. It seeks new possibilities for "Busan politics" that restore democratic principles, political diversity among citizens, and protect the vulnerable.

The second topic, selected ahead of the 150th anniversary of Busan Port's opening in 2026, focuses on the anecdotes and meanings embedded in Busan Port as it transforms from an economic growth center to a cultural space, outlining the future direction of Busan Port.

Applications for the call can be submitted by email with the research project application form by February 12th. For detailed information and the list of Busan Studies research projects, please refer to the Busan Research Institute website, and inquiries can be directed to the Busan Studies Research Center.
