U.S. President Donald Trump argued that protesters should be allowed to object to the vote after pardoning 1,500 supporters indicted for the January 6 Capitol riot.

On the 20th (local time), in an interview with Fox News, when host Sean Hannity asked about the reason for pardoning those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, Trump stated, "You should be able to protest the vote."

He added, "They were treated like the worst criminals in history," and claimed, "They were protesting the vote."

When Hannity pointed out that some rioters had stormed the Capitol and that this should not have been allowed, President Trump said they had served enough time, adding, "Some of those who were with the police is true, but it was a very minor incident." He also claimed that he had promised pardons during his campaign and that since he won, he could grant pardons.

He also expressed a desire for an investigation into former President Joe Biden, saying, "It's really hard to say they shouldn't have gone through that." He said he had endured "four hellish years" during Biden's presidency. Former President Trump has been tried in four criminal cases, including the hush money scandal.

President Biden preemptively pardoned anti-Trump figures, including his younger brother and sister-in-law, just before his term ended. This was likely because he believed Trump might seek political retaliation against them after taking office. Regarding this, President Trump pointed out, "It set an amazing precedent."
