The resignation vote for Hong Seongpyo, the chairman of the Asan City Council in Chungnam, held on the 23rd, was rejected.
The Asan City Council convened its 254th extraordinary session on this day, planning to hold a vote on Chairman Hong's resignation and elect a new chairman.
Prior to the resignation vote, Chairman Hong stated, "I apologize for causing inconvenience to many people due to my careless actions at this meaningful occasion."
He then referred the disciplinary request against himself to the Special Ethics Committee and left the meeting room.
The vote was presided over by Vice Chairman Maeng Uiseok, with all members present except for Chairman Hong. The motion was rejected with 7 votes in favor and 9 against.
In response, the council members declared a recess to ensure smooth proceedings and are currently discussing follow-up measures.
Meanwhile, Chairman Hong recently caused controversy by attending his alma mater's graduation ceremony while intoxicated.
On the 14th, he submitted his resignation letter to the council secretariat, stating, "I fully accept responsibility."
