No Meal Worries During Lunar New Year Holiday... Geumcheon-gu Provides Meal Cards to 1,344 Children at Risk of Food Insecurity

Prepaid Meal Cards and Holiday Greeting Cards Provided to 1,344 Children at Risk
30,000 KRW Per Child Usable at Around 2,500 Local Restaurants Until June 30

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will carry out the ‘Geumcheon-style Neighborhood Happiness Card’ support project for children at risk of food insecurity in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

The ‘Geumcheon-style Neighborhood Happiness Card’ project is designed to provide prepaid meal cards to children at risk of food insecurity during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays each year, ensuring that children have meals and can spend warm holidays.

The support targets 1,344 children who, as of the Lunar New Year in January 2025, are using the child meal card (Kkum Namu Card) received from the local community service center, children receiving supplementary food support, or children using group meal facilities.

Those who already have the Neighborhood Happiness Card (prepaid card) can use their existing cards without a separate application. New applicants or those who have lost their cards can receive a new card at their local community service center.

Each existing or newly issued card will be loaded with 30,000 KRW per person. The eligible children can use the loaded cards at about 2,500 general restaurants within Geumcheon-gu until June 30 of this year. The list of available restaurants can be checked on the Geumcheon-gu Office website under ‘Geumcheon News.’

Since Chuseok 2021, the district has independently promoted the meal card support project twice a year during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays for children. This year, a budget of 42.85 million KRW will be invested to support meals for children in need.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope children using the Neighborhood Happiness Card can spend a happy Lunar New Year with their families and friends,” and added, “We will continue to discover various projects that can provide more help to vulnerable children and youth.”
