The prosecution explained the reason for the demand, stating, "The defendant used a weapon against the victim more than 20 times, showing a particularly brutal method," and "The crime was premeditated, and there is meticulousness evident in the process of destroying evidence."
In his final statement, Kim Myung-hyun said, "On the day of the incident, I suffered a huge loss in gambling and fell into a panic state, committing a crime that should never be done as a human being," and added, "I will reflect until the day I die and apologize to the victims."
Kim Myung-hyun is accused of killing a man in his 40s around 9:40 p.m. on November 8 last year in a restaurant parking lot in Dongmun-dong, Seosan-si, Chungnam, stealing 130,000 won, and fleeing. He purchased lottery tickets with the stolen money. He is also charged with fleeing in the victim's car, abandoning the victim's body in a nearby drainage ditch, and setting the vehicle on fire.
Immediately after the incident, the prosecution disclosed Kim Myung-hyun's personal information, considering the brutality of the crime and the severity of the damage. The court plans to hold the sentencing hearing on the 12th of next month.
