Foreign media reported that the Japanese government has begun coordinating to hold the Korea-China-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting in late March in Japan.
On the 22nd (local time), the Mainichi Shimbun cited multiple Japanese government officials, stating that the Japanese government has already conveyed this intention to the South Korean and Chinese governments, both of which showed a positive attitude.
The meeting will be attended by Cho Tae-yeol, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Takeo Iwaya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Originally, Japan planned to hold the Korea-China-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting in early next month, but due to scheduling difficulties with Director Wang, the timing was moved to late March. The Chinese and Japanese governments are also considering holding the ministerial-level "China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue" for the first time in about six years, coinciding with Director Wang's visit to Japan.
Japan also pushed to hold the trilateral summit meeting in the spring of this year following the Korea-China-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting. However, Mainichi reported that the summit schedule is uncertain due to political turmoil in South Korea, including the detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
