Penalties Imposed, Including Demerit Points

Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province is significantly strengthening safety management to prevent fatal accidents at construction sites such as apartment buildings.

On the 22nd, Park Young-cheol, Director of the Urban Housing Bureau of Pyeongtaek City, explained in an online briefing, "Currently, Pyeongtaek has more construction sites than other cities and counties due to private urban development projects and new town development, resulting in a somewhat higher number of worker fatal accidents."

As part of the measures, the city will implement ▲ specialized training for site personnel ▲ special inspections of high-risk fall accident sites ▲ on-site inspections of resident supervisors’ work conditions ▲ promotion of smart safety equipment installation to prevent worker accidents at construction sites.

At sites where fatal accidents have occurred, the city will strictly investigate whether the contractor or supervisor was at fault, actively impose penalty points for negligence, and conduct monthly site inspections until the use approval is granted. If deficiencies are found, administrative actions will be taken.

In particular, if site personnel involved in a fatal accident receive penalty points due to negligence, they will be designated as priority management targets for two years. The city plans to intensively manage these sites by frequently checking the wearing status of safety equipment such as helmets and conducting unannounced site inspections within the jurisdiction.

Director Park said, "We expect this measure to raise awareness of safety among site personnel," and added, "We will strive to significantly reduce fatal accidents at construction sites in the future."
