Development of the "Myeongsasimni Marine Tourism Site"
Gochang County in North Jeolla Province has joined hands with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Electric Power Research Institute to cooperate on the development of the Myeongsasimni tourism project and the promotion of electric power technology.
On the 22nd, Gochang County held a signing ceremony for a business agreement on "Myeongsasimni Tourism Development and Electric Power Project Cooperation" with the KEPCO Electric Power Research Institute in the county office meeting room. The event was attended by Shim Deokseop, the governor of Gochang County, Shim Eunbo, the head of the KEPCO Electric Power Research Institute, and about ten others.

The agreement ceremony was arranged to promote mutual cooperation in five areas: smooth progress of the Myeongsasimni marine tourism development project, discovery of education and promotion cooperation projects for the Gochang Power Test Center, ecological restoration around the Gochang Power Test Center, and promotion of ecological resource projects.
The "KEPCO Electric Power Test Research Institute Gochang Power Test Center" is located in the Myeongsasimni area of Sangha-myeon, Gochang County. Established in 1989 with the construction of a demonstration test line, it now contributes to the expansion of renewable energy for carbon neutrality. The center plans to cooperate with Gochang County's "Myeongsasimni Tourism Complex Development Project" and, in the future, will be developed into a space where tourists visiting Myeongsasimni can experience KEPCO's cutting-edge electric power technology and receive education on electrical safety culture.
With the cooperation of the Gochang Power Test Center, located at the starting point of the Myeongsasimni Trail, the county has begun establishing essential infrastructure (such as parking lots, restrooms, and access roads) for the development of a premium tourist destination. It is also expected to have a positive effect on attracting additional investment from private companies.
Previously, in July last year, the county succeeded in receiving a positive response from the Ministry of Economy and Finance regarding the sale of land located in the middle of Myeongsasimni. Subsequently, it signed an investment agreement worth 300 billion KRW with four domestic mid-sized companies for the development of Myeongsasimni tourism. Each company plans to build resorts, accommodations, sports, and leisure facilities in the Myeongsasimni area of Gochang.
Myeongsasimni Beach, which stretches across Sangha-myeon and Haeri-myeon in Gochang County, is a rare 8.5 km straight coastline in Korea. At sunset, the red glow, the sea reflecting the sky, the sand tinted red by the wet soil, and the silhouettes of pine trees create a romantic spectacle.
Once a large-scale marine tourism site is developed in Myeongsasimni, it is expected to attract tourists and transform the area from a pass-through destination to a stay-type tourist attraction. The county expects this to drive regional development and make a significant contribution to addressing the crisis of population decline.
Governor Shim Deokseop stated, "This business agreement is expected to lay the foundation for promoting marine tourism and the development of the electric power industry in Gochang," and added, "We will continue to cooperate and communicate closely with the KEPCO Research Institute to ensure the successful implementation of the Myeongsasimni Marine Tourism Development Project."
