Jeon Hangil, Responding to Backlash Over Fraudulent Election Remarks, Asks "Why Are You Attacking Me So Fiercely?"

"Pointing Out the Possibility of Manipulation in the Computer System"
"Hoping the NEC Will Shed Suspicions and Undergo Complete Reform"
"A Totalitarian Idea... Is This Really Korea in the 21st Century?"

Public official and Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil expressed his feelings about the controversy after raising suspicions of election fraud and criticizing the National Election Commission (NEC).

On the 22nd, Jeon opened up on his Naver cafe 'Jeon Han-gil Korean History' by saying, "I am posting a brief reflection on the recent events that stirred up our cafe and what will happen in the future." He stated, "As I uploaded a video on my YouTube channel, the Korean media is already dead. The current manual vote counting I mentioned, as shown in the beginning of the video, is like Taiwan’s system where voting and counting are transparently conducted on the spot without moving ballot boxes," adding, "I pointed out the possibility of manipulation in the computer system, such as the difference between the number of early voters and actual voters. To clarify misunderstandings, I plan to produce a second video including more definitive statistical data and upload it before the Lunar New Year holiday."

He continued, "Until now, I have raised my voice for the passing of my public official students and for improvements in their treatment, such as salary increases. Although NEC students may be embarrassed at the moment, I hope this opportunity reveals structural problems and leads to measures to prevent recurrence," and added, "I wish the NEC would shed the stigma of being full of suspicions, undergo a complete transformation, regain its honor as the most transparent and trusted institution, and that public officials would work with pride and dignity. Everyone knows that I am speaking out despite receiving harsh criticism without gaining anything."

Jeon also said, "These days, I am reminded of the saying, 'A conscience that does not act is on the side of evil.' If the media, the NEC, and the judiciary had done their jobs properly from the start, why would I have taken such a stand?" He added, "All citizens must be worried that the Republic of Korea might sink and collapse like this. Some people posted comments expressing disappointment in me after media reports, and although I did not reply to each comment, I felt sorry." Furthermore, he said, "The goal is to enhance the transparency and fairness of voting, which is the most fundamental aspect of democracy. I don’t understand why people fiercely oppose this. Isn’t this what all citizens want beyond left and right politics?" He added, "Some political parties are preparing bills to legally punish those who raise suspicions of election fraud. It seems like a totalitarian idea to even control the media. I wonder if this is really the democratized Republic of Korea in the 21st century."

Earlier, on the 20th, Jeon sparked controversy by saying on YouTube that he could not trust the Supreme Court’s rejection of the election fraud theory because it was a "political judge’s ruling." In response, current public officials said, "Go visit polling stations or counting centers close to election day and see the people who quietly work from dawn," "Don’t you suspect that you are the one being manipulated?" and "Such remarks mislead the many local public officials who respect you," rebutting his statements.
