This 17-year consecutive tuition freeze is the result of Mokpo University’s consistent efforts to alleviate the financial burden on students and parents amid economic difficulties. The background that made the tuition freeze possible includes the establishment of a stable operational foundation through various financial support projects such as Glocal, RISE, and the National University Promotion Project. Based on this, the university continues to develop excellent curricula and improve the educational environment.

President Song Hacheol stated, “We are preparing to leap forward as a globally renowned university specializing in marine studies, based on the 400 billion KRW in funding secured over the next five years from Glocal, RISE, and the National University Promotion Project. The student welfare budget will also be significantly increased to about 20 billion KRW annually, and scholarships will be raised from the current 103% of tuition to 115%. Every year, we will provide overseas study opportunities to 1,000 students to foster global talent based in the region.”

He continued, “With an innovative vision and differentiated strategy as a global leading university in the green marine industry that leads both the world and the region, a flagship national university driving a healthy higher education ecosystem through the integration of national and public universities, and as a university centered on the best student welfare and culture and arts, we will strive to grow as a global leading university in the green marine industry that leads both the world and the region.”

Meanwhile, National Mokpo University has consistently worked to reduce the financial burden on students and parents facing difficulties, including a 5.1% tuition reduction in 2012, the abolition of undergraduate admission fees in 2018, and providing a special scholarship equivalent to 10% of the first semester tuition in 2020 due to COVID-19.
