Joint Crackdown by Cleaning, Garden and Forestry, and Agricultural Technology Departments
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 22nd that it will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal waste burning from February 1 to May 15 to prevent the illegal burning of agricultural residues and garbage during the spring season.

Illegal burning is recognized as a serious problem that causes severe air pollution, triggers large forest fires, and threatens the health and stability of nearby village residents.
The intensive crackdown targets residential areas adjacent to forest regions and farmland. Inspectors will focus on monitoring the ridges of rice paddies and fields as well as sites where agricultural by-products are generated. If illegal burning is detected, fines may be imposed under the Forest Protection Act (up to 500,000 KRW) and the Waste Management Act (up to 1,000,000 KRW).
Before the crackdown, Yangpyeong-gun plans to promote the intensive crackdown on illegal burning, the agricultural by-product shredding support project, and forest fire prevention by attending meetings of village chiefs at each eup and myeon office. Additionally, illegal burning inspectors will visit senior centers and village halls to provide guidance on proper disposal methods for agricultural by-products and distribute promotional materials prohibiting illegal burning to residents, making every effort to eradicate illegal burning.
Song Hye-sook, head of the Cleaning Department, stated, “Illegal burning is one of the main causes of environmental pollution such as fine dust and can lead to disasters like forest fires and large-scale fires. To eradicate this, active cooperation from residents is necessary, and we ask that any illegal activities be reported immediately.” She added, “Yangpyeong-gun will continue to do its best to maintain a clean and safe environment through ongoing crackdowns and publicity.”
