The Seocho District Council (Chairperson Goseon Jae) carried out support activities twice, on January 16 and 21, to help neighbors in need within the community and to promote a culture of sharing.
The council is leading warm changes in the community by providing practical assistance and sharing warmth through donations and delivery of goods.
First, on the 16th, the council donated 5 million won to the Community Chest of Korea for vulnerable groups in the area, using funds saved from council operation expenses and common administrative costs.
This donation was made with the purpose of alleviating the difficulties of marginalized neighbors amid the economic downturn and shrinking culture of sharing. The delivery ceremony was attended by Chairperson Goseon Jae, Vice Chairperson Lee Hyun-sook, Operations Committee Chair Yoo Ji-woong, Administrative Welfare Committee Chair Oh Ji-hwan, and Finance and Construction Committee Chair Ahn Jong-sook.
On the 21st, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the council visited welfare centers to deliver supplies to prepare for the cold wave. The council members were divided into two teams: Chairperson Goseon Jae, Administrative Welfare Committee Chair Oh Ji-hwan, Councilor Park Mi-jung, and Councilor Kim Ji-hoon visited Bangbae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center; Vice Chairperson Lee Hyun-sook, Operations Committee Chair Yoo Ji-woong, Finance and Construction Committee Chair Ahn Jong-sook, Councilor Kim Sung-joo, Councilor Kang Yeo-jung, Councilor Lee Hyung-jun, Councilor Ha Seo-young, and Councilor Lee Eun-kyung participated at Yangjae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.
The delivered items consisted of 100 electric mats, determined based on a demand survey conducted by the Welfare Policy Division. The supplies will be distributed to △ elderly single-person households △ housing-vulnerable households △ multi-child and single-parent families, among others.
Additionally, the council members held a meeting with welfare center officials to listen to difficulties encountered during operations and to discuss improvement measures.
This sharing activity by the council ahead of the Lunar New Year is not the first. In 2023, they donated 200 sets of rice cake soup ingredients, and in 2024, 100 blankets, continuously sharing warmth. Chairperson Goseon Jae said, “Though it is a small gesture, I hope it can provide some strength to those enduring the coldest winter ever,” and added, “We will continue to show unwavering interest and support to create a warm and caring community.”
