National Busan Science Museum Opens Permanent Exhibition Hall Free During Lunar New Year Holiday... Experience Popular Drama Folk Games

Except for Lunar New Year Day,
Hands-On Exhibitions Prove Popular

The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Sam-jong) will be open free of charge during the Lunar New Year holiday so that families can enjoy traditional folk game experiences.

On the 22nd, the National Busan Science Museum announced that it will open the permanent exhibition hall for the Lunar New Year and offer a variety of enjoyable activities, including the folk game experience event "2025 Seollal Sa(巳)iport."

The science museum will operate the permanent exhibition hall free of charge from the 27th to the 30th. It will be closed only on the Lunar New Year day, the 29th. The permanent exhibition hall is a science and technology experience center themed around the major industries of the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region, mostly consisting of hands-on, tactile exhibits.

Those wishing to visit for free can receive a wristband at the first-floor information desk or at the entrance of the second-floor permanent exhibition hall to gain entry.

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the special guided program "The Secret of Spinning Speed" at the permanent exhibition hall is also available free of charge. This special guided program explains the scientific principles related to the exhibits at a level suitable for children’s understanding, enhancing their comprehension through an interactive educational experience.

Additionally, the National Busan Science Museum will hold the folk game experience event "2025 Seollal Sa(巳)iport" from the 25th to the 30th on the first floor at the Kkumnarae Hill.

The event includes ▲folk game missions, ▲family competition Yutnori game, ▲wish goods making, ▲family cinema, ▲interactive experiences, and ▲photo zones.

In the folk game mission "I am the Folk Game Captain," participants can freely try traditional games such as Tuho (arrow throwing), Ddakji (folded paper tile flipping), Jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), Sabangchigi (four corners game), Biseokchigi (stone knocking), and Yutnori (stick game). Completing the stamp collection after playing these games will earn a small souvenir. Traditional folk games featured in the globally popular Squid Game 2 can also be experienced.

In the family competition Yutnori game "Our Family, Win!", families form teams to compete in a serious Yutnori match. There are three sessions per day (11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.), with up to 10 families participating each session.

In the wish goods making "Filling Wishes," participants create kits that evoke the Lunar New Year atmosphere, such as wooden spinning tops, wooden mood lamps, mother-of-pearl hand mirrors, and Cheongsachorong (traditional Korean lanterns).

In the family cinema "Sai Movie," the films "Up" and "Toy Story" are screened twice daily for free. There is also an interactive media experience where visitors can play games by stepping on the floor, as well as a photo zone to capture New Year wishes.

Director Song Sam-jong of the National Busan Science Museum said, "We have prepared programs where the whole family can enjoy science and traditional culture together during the Lunar New Year holiday," adding, "We will continue to operate diverse science culture dissemination programs in cooperation with the local community."

To commemorate its 10th anniversary, the National Busan Science Museum fully renovated its flagship exhibition hall, the Early Childhood Science Playground "Saessak Nuri Hall," and reopened it on the 18th. The new Saessak Nuri Hall, themed "Space Exploration," features exhibition spaces representing Earth, the Moon, and Mars, inspiring dreams about space and stimulating imagination to turn the future into reality. It has been popular, with all sessions sold out and over 2,400 visitors during the first weekend after reopening.
