Gyeonggi Province will specialize and support youth welfare facilities related to 'out-of-home youth' into three types.
On the 22nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will specialize the functions of 34 youth welfare facilities in the province into three types: ▲high-risk support type ▲self-reliance support type ▲recovery support type, and provide customized support for out-of-home youth. To this end, Gyeonggi Province will provide a budget of 1.89 billion KRW.
The high-risk support type places mental health professionals such as mental health social workers and clinical psychologists at two youth shelters, supporting medication management and disability diagnosis to address the psychological and emotional difficulties of youth with borderline intelligence and those in the high-risk mental health group.
The self-reliance support type is divided into crisis detection, self-reliance support, and academic support. Seven youth welfare facilities of the crisis detection type discover out-of-home youth through various methods such as operating food trucks and online crisis youth detection activities (cyber outreach). Additionally, six self-reliance support type facilities operate career exploration programs or self-reliance stores such as cafes and waffle shops to provide work experience opportunities for out-of-home youth, and one academic support type facility operates an alternative school to create a learning environment and support academics for out-of-home youth.
The recovery support type provides psychological counseling and rest programs to help out-of-home youth recover in a stable environment and adapt to society.
Ko Young-mi, Director of the Youth Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "This project was planned to strengthen the expertise of youth welfare facilities and help out-of-home youth become self-reliant in a better environment," emphasizing, "We will continue to spare no effort in providing various support so that out-of-home youth can grow up healthily."
