Student Exchange Between Gwangju and Jeju, and Opening of Gwangsan Education Center
Major Policy Briefings to Be Held on the 22nd and 23rd
The Gwangju Dongbu and Seobu Offices of Education, under the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, announced on the 21st that they will pursue the realization of "innovative inclusive education for a shared future" through education that reflects the unique characteristics of the region.
The Dongbu Office of Education is implementing various educational initiatives under the slogan "Dongbu Education that Nurtures Everyone's Dreams with Diverse Competencies." One of its signature programs is the "Bit-Tam-In Class," which fosters democratic citizenship by facilitating exchanges between students from Gwangju and Jeju.
Additionally, the office supports the recruitment of temporary elementary school teachers and implements initiatives such as reducing school administrative workload by providing sand sterilization for playgrounds. New projects include the "DeoGipi Diagnosis Service" for professional external support (Learning Comprehensive Clinic Center), the Dongbu Culture and Arts Club Festival, and AI Digital Textbook Training programs.
The Seobu Office of Education will open the Gwangsan Education Support Center this July to address the growing demand for educational administration due to population increases in Gwangsan-gu. The center will consist of teams for lifelong education support, international education support, and kindergarten support, and will be responsible for region-specific tasks such as supporting the Gwangsan-gu internationalization special zone and the integration of childcare and education in Gwangsan-gu.
Key policy focuses include support for customized curricula, guaranteeing basic academic proficiency, promoting integrated reading education, strengthening on-site school support, and protecting teachers' rights and educational activities.
Popular programs from last year will continue, such as the Seobu Reading Festival, "Seobu Ieum Call" which allows students in welfare blind spots to access counseling and services through a dedicated line, the "Seobu Ieum Project" for the happy growth and educational recovery of students and staff facing complex challenges, and the "Seobu Ieum Mentoring Program" which connects multicultural students with mentors to support healthy character development and psychological stability.
The Dongbu Office of Education will hold its major policy briefing for this year at the Gwangju Education Training Institute on the 22nd, while the Seobu Office of Education will hold its briefing at the Gwangju Education Civic Cooperation Promotion Center on the 23rd.
Jung Sungsook, Superintendent of the Dongbu Office of Education, stated, "In line with 'innovative inclusive education for a shared future,' we will actively support students in developing diverse competencies, nurturing warm character, and advancing into the global world and digital future."
Lee Sungcheol, Superintendent of the Seobu Office of Education, said, "We will listen to the opinions of students, teachers, and other members of the community, and respond flexibly to changes on the ground to ensure that no child in Gwangju is left behind."
