On the 21st, Kim Geum-sook, Director of the Convergence Education Bureau at the Provincial Office of Education, and Kang Soo-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, held a meeting at Yangju City Hall and agreed to join forces to promote the establishment of the provisional Gyeonggi Future Sports High School (hereinafter Gyeonggi Mirae Chego).

Gyeonggi Mirae Chego will support students who have interest and talent in sports fields such as winter sports, sports marketing, sports industry, and sports diplomacy to realize their dreams. It is expected to address the diverse educational demands in sports fields that have been difficult to provide through public education until now.

Accordingly, the Provincial Office of Education aims to open Gyeonggi Mirae Chego by 2030 and plans to proceed step-by-step starting with policy research this year.

The two organizations also discussed alternatives related to Yangju City's bid to host the International Ice Skating Rink.

The Provincial Office of Education plans to establish the sports high school in the northern region even if the International Ice Skating Rink is not secured in Yangju, and Yangju City will cooperate to secure winter sports facilities for student athletes to use.

Kim Geum-sook, Director of the Convergence Education Bureau at the Provincial Office of Education, expressed gratitude to Yangju City for their efforts in providing the site for the provisional Gyeonggi Future Sports High School, saying, “The Provincial Office of Education will do its best to nurture balanced sports talents considering the characteristics of sports disciplines and regions.”
