Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon's op-ed has been published on the website of the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum) currently being held in Switzerland.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that while Governor Kim Dong-yeon is attending the ‘2025 World Economic Forum (WEF·Davos Forum)’ opened in Davos, Switzerland, the ‘human-centered economy’ (humanomics) and Gyeonggi Province’s efforts to realize it were introduced at the Davos Forum.
On the 17th, the Davos Forum posted Governor Kim Dong-yeon’s op-ed titled “How human-centred technology combines innovation and inclusion in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea” in the ‘EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES’ section on its official website (www.weforum.org).
The op-ed was written at the request of the World Economic Forum, which uses the forum as a channel to reflect the voices of leaders participating in the forum each year, including heads of state, business leaders, and heads of international organizations.
The World Economic Forum has been publishing a weekly newspaper called Forum Stories since November 21 last year, and this week featured Governor Kim’s op-ed in the ‘EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES’ section. EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES is a session that introduces analyses, opinions, and insights from global scholars and leaders on global issues.
In the op-ed, Governor Kim introduced Gyeonggi Province as “the largest local government in South Korea and a cradle of advanced industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, advanced mobility, and biohealth, where major corporations like Samsung, SK Hynix, and LG are located,” emphasizing that “technological innovation must be directed toward realizing social values centered on people.”
He particularly stated, “Gyeonggi Province is already implementing various policy programs to provide more, better, and more equitable opportunities to its 14.15 million residents based on the philosophy of a ‘human-centered economy (humanomics),’” proposing that “through humanomics, by bridging gaps and pursuing new growth centered on people, investment in people will create greater social value and growth opportunities.”
He also introduced that “Gyeonggi Province is actively exploring ways to utilize advanced technology in a human-centered manner,” noting that “it established the nation’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bureau, enacted a basic AI ordinance, and is applying AI to major public services in the province, from traffic demand forecasting to care for people with developmental disabilities and the elderly.”
An article contributed by Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, posted on the Davos Forum website
He continued, “The public sector alone cannot solve all social problems, and to create a sustainable system, we are focusing on startups,” introducing Gyeonggi’s Pangyo area.
Governor Kim cited examples of three companies located in Pangyo Techno Valley: ▲Ohu Dooshi Lab (a startup leading global carbon accounting standards; its platform developed by 2PM Lab is used by over 600 companies worldwide), ▲Rebellions (an AI-based semiconductor company proposing new semiconductor manufacturing standards that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions), and ▲Kangsters (a wheelchair manufacturing startup that allows indoor aerobic exercise like on a treadmill and virtual games such as wheelchair athletics, skiing, and gliding through apps and game content). He introduced how startups in Pangyo are solving social problems using advanced technology and growing into companies with sustainable competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum is being held in Davos, Switzerland, from the 20th to the 24th of this month. It is the world’s largest ‘brainstorming’ meeting where prominent businesspeople, economists, politicians, and journalists from over 130 countries gather to discuss economic issues and seek international practical tasks.
This year’s theme is ‘Collaboration in The Intelligent Age,’ and about 2,500 people are attending the event, including approximately 350 senior government officials, more than 900 corporate CEOs, academics, and NGO representatives, including Governor Kim. U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver a special online speech on the 23rd.
