Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center Obtains Certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Institutional Bioethics Committee

Recognized as a Safe and Trusted Clinical Research Institution

The Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (Director Lee Chang-hoon) recently received certification by passing all items with excellent scores in the Institutional Review Board (IRB) evaluation, which assesses the safe conduct and management of clinical research.

The Institutional Review Board evaluation is conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Bioethics Policy Agency to promote an ethical research environment and strengthen the institution's ethical capabilities, including the protection of research subjects.

The Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences was evaluated as a human subject research institution and a human-derived materials research institution, assessing the composition and operation performance of the committee. It passed all 40 criteria through document, on-site, and comprehensive evaluations. The certification is valid for three years until the end of 2027.

Through this certification, the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences can entrust other institutional committee tasks in the future and will be rated "Excellent" in the "Clinical Research Management Standards" category during medical institution accreditation. Additionally, when applying as the principal research institution for new projects in health and medical technology R&D projects conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, a bonus of 0.5 points will be awarded.

Director Lee Chang-hoon stated, "This certification officially recognizes the stability and reliability of the Institutional Review Board of the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences. We will do our best not only to improve the quality of research but also to protect research subjects and create an ethical research environment. Furthermore, through organic cooperation with other institutions within the Dongnam Radiation Medical Science Complex, we will contribute to enhancing the region's research competitiveness."
