Discussing Directions for Innovative Radiation Medical Technology Development

As part of the Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation (RIS) project, the symposium held on the 16th at Lotte Hotel in Seomyeon, Busan, was conducted under the theme of ‘Convergence of Artificial Intelligence Technology and Radiation Bio Technology’.
The symposium served as an opportunity to strengthen the industry-academia-research network within the region and discuss the direction for developing innovative radiation medical technologies.
The event began with a greeting from Professor Kang Do-young of Dong-A University’s Department of Medicine, followed by a congratulatory speech from Lee Dong-gyu, Director of the Semiconductor New Materials Division at Busan City, who emphasized the potential for Busan’s radiation medical bio industry to establish itself as a national strategic industry.
Various experts also delivered presentations. Yong-gyun Yoo, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Application Research Office at the Digital Reactor AI Research Center of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, shared the ‘Development and Utilization Cases of the Nuclear Domain-Specialized Large Language Model “Atomic GPT”’, suggesting the possibility of digital transformation in radiation technology.
Jaesung Hwang, Principal Researcher at the AI New Drug Convergence Research Institute of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, introduced ‘AI-Based New Drug Evaluation Technology and Its Application in Educational Programs’, providing insights into the future of new drug development.
Hyungil Shin, Senior Researcher at the Advanced Prediction Research Headquarters of the Safety Evaluation Research Institute, presented the ‘Latest Research Results on AI-Based New Drug Safety Evaluation’, exploring industrial application possibilities.
Suho Shin, Head of the Life Care Technology Group at Busan TP, proposed the ‘Operation Plan for the Healthcare Big Data Center Linked with the Western Busan Healthcare Cluster’, emphasizing the importance of fostering the healthcare industry based on big data within the region.
Youngsoo Seol, Professor of Mathematics at Dong-A University, presented on ‘The Role and Vision of the Department of Data Science Convergence’, introducing the core role in nurturing local talent.
Professor Kang Do-young of Dong-A University’s Department of Medicine stated, “This symposium will serve as an opportunity not only for the advancement of radiation bio technology but also for Busan to leap forward as a global bio-innovation city through convergence with artificial intelligence. The RIS Radiation Bio Symposium contributes to strengthening the cooperative network among local governments, universities, and research institutes and advancing regionally specialized bio technologies. We will continue to pursue ongoing research and industrial collaboration.”
