Yeongdeungpo-gu Strengthens Honor and Welfare for National Veterans On January 1, 2025, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, paid a sincere visit to the National Cemetery.

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that this year, through new veterans' policies, it will strengthen the respect for national veterans and take the lead in improving the welfare of their families.

First, the consolation money paid during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, as well as in June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans, has been increased from the existing 25,000 won to 40,000 won. This aims to support the lives of national veterans and their families.

The consolation money is automatically paid to the existing veterans' allowance account without a separate application. If a new application is required due to relocation, applicants can visit the local community service center with a certificate or confirmation verifying veteran status and a copy of their bankbook.

The district takes responsibility until the final journey of national veterans. As the first autonomous district in Seoul to sign an agreement with funeral service providers, it supports national veterans by allowing them to use funeral hall rooms free of charge. The contracted funeral halls include a total of eight locations such as Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital and Yeongdeungpo Hospital, providing support up to 2 million won. Detailed information can be obtained through the district office’s Welfare Policy Division.

In addition, various support policies are operated, including ▲a veterans' respect allowance of 70,000 won per month ▲a condolence payment of 300,000 won upon the death of a veteran ▲subsidies for veterans' organizations’ pilgrimage events to battle sites. Last year, 12 priority parking spaces for national veterans were installed to enhance their living stability and respect.

Along with this, the district is newly promoting commemorative events this year to reflect on the meaning of independence and to inform future generations of its historical value, marking the 80th anniversary of liberation. The event consists of various programs such as historical lectures and an exhibition of independence movement photos, aiming to reexamine the historical significance of liberation and provide participants with inspiration and lessons.
