Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, has launched another initiative to revitalize alleyway commercial areas, including the creation of the Hongdae Red Road and the Sky Path.

Mapo District (Mayor Park Gang-su)'s 8th-term campaign project, the ‘Mapo Circular Train Bus,’ will hold its unveiling and trial run ceremony at 2 p.m. on January 25 at Red Road R2, marking the start of its first operation.

This project was promoted to activate alleyway commercial areas by connecting major tourist attractions and 11 key commercial districts in Mapo, and to eliminate blind spots in public transportation usage.

The ‘Train Bus’ was designed to resemble a steam locomotive, featuring a chimney, steam, and whistle sounds. It is also an eco-friendly electric vehicle that uniquely expresses the Red Road characters, Kkaebi and Kkaesoon.

The Train Bus operates as a tourist circular bus connecting major tourist spots in Mapo District. Adults can ride unlimited times and transfer on the same day with a 5,500 KRW (one-day pass) fare.

Starting from the Red Road, passengers can use 17 stops including Mangwon Market, Sky Path, Dohwa Seagull Alley, and more. The Train Bus travels through local alleyway commercial areas, allowing riders to explore hidden restaurants and unique spaces.

The unveiling ceremony is divided into two parts. The first part includes the attendance of the Mapo District Mayor and local residents, featuring ▲commemorative and congratulatory speeches ▲viewing of promotional videos ▲MOU signing ▲and a celebratory stage. Singer Jung Dong-won will perform, offering a wonderful show and abundant entertainment.

Additionally, local hotels and travel-related associations will sign an MOU to promote the Train Bus and foster mutual cooperation for the revitalization of tourism and the economy in Mapo District.

The second part, the trial run, allows participants to experience the Train Bus. It is organized by the Mapo District Facilities Management Corporation and includes foreign tourists and media representatives. The main route moves in the order of R2 (stop), Kkirikkiri-gil (a pedestrian-centered street near Exit 3 of Hongdae Station on the Airport Railroad, known for clustered restaurants), Sky Path (an emotional alley near Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station with independent bookstores and unique cafes), and R5. At each stop, surprise events such as busking performances and cotton candy shows will take place.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, stated, “The Mapo Circular Train Bus is not just a means of transportation but a project that connects 11 major commercial districts, offering diverse attractions 365 days a year and revitalizing local commerce.” He added, “In particular, by linking Mapo’s tourist spots and 11 commercial districts, I hope this project will help each stop along the route grow into a popular hot place.”
