"Radical and Corrupt Regime...
Facing a Crisis of Trust"
Donald Trump, the 47th President-elect of the United States, targeted the Joe Biden administration as a "radical and corrupt regime" in his inauguration speech on the 20th (local time). Former President Biden, who was listening to the inauguration speech of his successor, President Trump, showed expressions ranging from a stunned smile to a stern face.
President Trump stated this during the inauguration ceremony held at the Rotunda Hall of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., saying, "Our government is facing a crisis of trust."
He said, "For years, a radical and corrupt regime has taken power and wealth from the citizens," adding, "The pillars of our society have collapsed and seem completely devastated."
He also criticized the surge in illegal immigration and the response to the Los Angeles (LA) fires.
President-elect Trump emphasized, "My election is to reverse a terrible betrayal and hold accountable those responsible for numerous betrayals," and "The decline of America will end."
Former President Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, who were listening to President-elect Trump's inauguration speech, could not hide their stern expressions in response to the indiscriminate criticism made directly to them. Former President Biden had cooperated with the transition for a peaceful transfer of power and attended the inauguration ceremony. On the morning of the event, as is customary, he had a conversation with President Trump and the First Lady at the White House before the inauguration, and then rode in the same car with President-elect Trump to the Capitol. This contrasts with January 2021, four years ago, when then-President Trump refused to attend the inauguration due to disputing the election results.
President-elect Trump also hinted at "erasing Biden" throughout his inauguration speech. He announced that he would declare a national emergency at the southern border to deport illegal immigrants and repeal the Green New Deal policies, including mandatory electric vehicle regulations. He also stated that he would declare a national energy emergency to expand drilling and production of fossil fuels such as oil.
The American daily The Washington Post (WP) pointed out, "There were notable mentions where Trump attacked the Biden administration and the Democratic Party, such as Hurricane Helen and the LA wildfires," adding, "He launched broad and sharp attacks against other leaders." It also criticized, "The gloomy Trump, a hero of revenge, once again painted a dark self-portrait."
