Passenger Car Running a Red Light Hits Two Bicycles on Commute... Man in His 50s Dies

A vehicle running a red light hit a bicycle crossing the crosswalk on its signal, resulting in the death of the cyclist.

According to the Geoje Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 20th, at around 6:40 a.m., a passenger car traveling toward Okpo-dong on a road near a shipbuilding company in Aju-dong, Geoje City, struck two bicycles.

As a result of the accident, a man in his 50s riding a bicycle and crossing the crosswalk suffered a severe head injury and was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.

Another cyclist, a man in his 30s, sustained bruises.

At the time of the accident, the traffic light for vehicles was red, but the female driver in her 30s did not reduce the vehicle's speed and continued driving.

The driver reportedly stated that she "did not see the signal."

Police investigations revealed that neither drunk driving nor unlicensed driving was involved.

The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and the vehicle's speed at the time by analyzing the passenger car's Event Data Recorder (EDR) and witness statements, and will file charges against the driver for causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accidents.
