A Gathering for Communication and Unity Among Pohang Natives
Vowing to Join Forces for Collective Progress in the New Year

To welcome the New Year of Eulsa, the '2025 Jaegyeong Pohangin New Year's Meeting,' wishing for a hopeful leap forward for Pohang, was held successfully on the 20th at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.

At the New Year's meeting, about 200 Jaegyeong natives from various fields including politics, administration, and economy attended, including Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang; Kim Il-man, Chairman of the Pohang City Council; local district lawmakers Kim Jeong-jae and Lee Sang-hwi; Kim Hak-hong, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province; as well as lawmakers Lee In-seon and Kim Mi-ae.


Notably, former President Lee Myung-bak, who is from Pohang, joined the event, sharing warm words and encouragement with the attendees, expressing his gratitude for the warm hospitality of his hometown people and promising to continue offering advice for the development of Pohang.


The event began with mutual New Year's greetings among attendees, followed by New Year's well-wishes and greetings from guests, a donation and scholarship award ceremony for hometown love, and a group rice cake cutting ceremony hoping for Pohang's leap forward in the new year.


Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "Although we are going through difficult times due to the stagnation of the region's main industries, if the Jaegyeong Pohangin unite with one heart and one mind to support us, we will be able to wisely overcome the difficulties of the local community," adding, "In the New Year of Eulsa, we will make every effort to raise Pohang's urban competitiveness to the next level, revitalize the livelihood economy, and stabilize citizens' lives."
