Yangsan City to Enroll and Implement 'Citizen Safety Insurance' in 2025

Support for 13 Coverage Items, Up to 15 Million KRW

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam will continue to implement the ‘Yangsan City Citizen Safety Insurance’ system in the new year to support the livelihood stability of citizens affected by unexpected disaster accidents.

The Yangsan City Citizen Safety Insurance is a system in which the city fully covers the insurance premiums for all citizens registered in Yangsan City (including registered foreigners) and supports the livelihood stability of citizens affected by disasters or accidents according to each coverage item and coverage amount.

The coverage items include △death from natural disasters △death from social disasters △death or permanent disability from explosion, fire, collapse, or landslide injuries △death or permanent disability from injuries while using public transportation △death or permanent disability from agricultural machinery △death from water-related accidents △injury treatment costs from school zone traffic accidents △injury treatment costs from silver zone traffic accidents △burn surgery costs △diagnosis costs from dog bites or collision accidents.

In particular, while the dog bite accident medical expenses were previously limited to cases treated in emergency rooms, this year the coverage has been expanded and improved to include cases treated at general hospitals and clinics.

In 2024, Yangsan City paid out 68 cases totaling 92 million KRW through the Citizen Safety Insurance. The main reasons for payment were 50 cases of burn surgery costs, 10 cases of emergency room medical expenses for dog bite accidents, 3 cases of permanent disability while using public transportation, 4 cases of treatment costs for school zone accidents, and 1 case of death from fire, collapse, or explosion, with many citizens benefiting from the Citizen Safety Insurance.

If Yangsan citizens suffer damage from accidents included in these coverage items, they can claim insurance benefits by submitting a claim to the Citizen Safety Insurance Call Center. After document review, insurance payments can be received, and claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident. Yangsan citizens are automatically enrolled without separate procedures, and duplicate compensation is possible regardless of other insurance.

The coverage period for the Citizen Safety Insurance is one year, from February 1 this year to January 31 next year. Detailed information on claim documents and methods can be obtained by contacting the Citizen Safety Insurance Call Center or checking the Yangsan City website.

A Yangsan City official said, “We hope the Citizen Safety Insurance will provide some help to citizens who have experienced unexpected disaster accidents,” and added, “We will establish a systematic compensation system and actively promote it so that more citizens can benefit.”
