Lunar New Year Events at 13 Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts for 5 Days Starting January 20

Efforts to Revitalize the Local Economy
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will hold various events at 13 traditional markets and shopping districts in the area to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday.
Starting from January 20, events will be held on different schedules for each market over five days, including ▲ Onnuri gift certificate refund events based on purchase amounts (e.g., a 5,000 KRW certificate for purchases over 30,000 KRW) ▲ traditional play experiences ▲ Lunar New Year receipt raffle events, and more.
First, from the 20th, Onnuri gift certificate refund events will be held at Ttukdo Market and Singeumho Station Alley Shopping District. From the 21st, refund events based on purchase amounts and promotional item giveaways will take place at Ttukseom Station Shopping District and Wangsimni Muhakbong Shopping District.
On the 22nd, events will be held at Songjeong Cherry Blossom Alley Shopping District, and from the 23rd, various events such as prize raffles based on purchase amounts, Onnuri gift certificate refunds, and traditional play experiences will be held at Geumnam Market, Yongdap Shopping Market, Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District, Hanyang University Front Shopping District, and Seongsu Station Alley Shopping District. The Lunar New Year events will conclude on the 25th with an Onnuri gift certificate refund event at Haengdang Market Shopping District.
Additionally, at Majang Livestock Market, from the 23rd to the 27th, a five-day Onnuri gift certificate refund event organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will be held, providing up to 30% of the purchase amount of domestic agricultural and livestock products (up to 20,000 KRW per person) in Onnuri gift certificates.
The district expects that the unique holiday events at each market will attract residents’ visits, revitalizing traditional markets struggling due to the economic downturn, and will also greatly help alleviate the economic burden on residents preparing holiday offerings.
Furthermore, Mayor Jeong Won-oh of Seongdong-gu will visit traditional markets and shopping districts in the area from January 16 to 24 to encourage merchants and listen to their difficulties. This is to directly hear the vivid voices from the field and reflect them in district policies to provide practical support to market merchants facing challenges such as ongoing price increases and economic downturn.
On January 16, he will visit Majang Livestock Market; on the 20th, Singeumho Station Alley Shopping District and Geumnam Market; on the 21st, Ttukseom Station Shopping District and Ttukdo Market; on the 22nd, Seongsu Station Alley Shopping District and Songjeong Cherry Blossom Alley Shopping District; on the 23rd, Yongdap Shopping Market, Sageunsalgoti Alley Shopping District, and Hanyang University Front Shopping District; and finally, on the 24th, Wangsimni Muhakbong Shopping District, Haengdang Market Shopping District, and Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District. He plans to actively communicate with merchants and residents visiting the traditional markets.
Mayor Jeong Won-oh of Seongdong-gu said, “We have prepared various Lunar New Year events at traditional markets and shopping districts in the district, so we hope many residents visit to ease their household economic burdens and create joyful memories. We will continue our efforts to revitalize the local economy by actively reflecting the opinions of merchants and residents gathered through market visits into district policies.”
