Support for Vulnerable Households' Consolation Expenses and Early Wage Payment for Construction Workers... Gwanak-gu Prepares a Warm Seollal Holiday

Consolation Funds of 40,000 KRW Provided to Basic Livelihood and Medical Benefit Recipients
Prompt Payment of Wages, Subcontractor Fees, Equipment and Material Costs...
Preventing Wage Arrears for On-site Workers

In the midst of the economic downturn, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is striving to make the Lunar New Year holiday happy for all residents.

First, the district plans to support consolation funds to help low-income households and other vulnerable neighbors spend a warm Lunar New Year holiday, thereby promoting the stability of their livelihoods.

In addition to the Lunar New Year consolation funds (supplementary benefits) provided by Seoul City, the district has allocated an additional 155 million KRW from its budget to support a total of 40,000 KRW per household.

The support targets approximately 15,500 households receiving basic livelihood and medical benefits as of the payment reference date, January 6. However, facility recipients residing in social welfare facilities are excluded from the support.

The consolation funds were deposited into the representative accounts of the eligible households on January 16. If the account is under seizure, the funds can be collected in cash at the local community service center of the resident’s district.

For households newly selected as recipients between the payment reference date and Lunar New Year day, January 29, additional payments will be made starting February 12.

Alongside this, ahead of this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, the district has launched intensive inspections to prevent wage arrears and delayed payments for materials and equipment rentals at construction sites.

The district plans to complete progress inspections and final inspections for facility construction and government-supplied materials before the holiday. Furthermore, it aims to shorten payment deadlines and complete all payments for various construction works and materials by the 24th.

Additionally, the district will continuously monitor the payment system called ‘Hadogup Jikimi’ (Subcontractor Guardian) to thoroughly manage and prevent any non-payment or delayed payment of labor costs, subcontractor fees, and equipment and material costs.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Although we face a difficult time with unstable domestic and international conditions and an economic recession, I hope that during the Lunar New Year holiday, all residents will enjoy peace and that their homes will be filled with happiness and laughter.”
