Reappointment of Jo Nam-gyu as Chairman of the Korea Dance Association

Jo Nam-gyu, the current chairman of the Korea Dance Association and a professor at Sangmyung University, has confirmed his reappointment, the Korea Dance Association announced on the 18th.


At the 64th General Assembly and the 24th Executive Election held at Sangmyung University’s Gyedang Hall on the same day, Chairman Jo Nam-gyu secured reappointment by defeating candidate Jeong Hye-jin by a margin of 583 votes. In the executive election, which saw participation from 793 members, Chairman Jo received 668 votes (86.7%), while candidate Jeong Hye-jin (President of Choi Hyun-woo Dance Institute) received 105 votes (13.2%).

In this election, Chairman Jo Nam-gyu emphasized the establishment of a National Dance Center and the enactment of the Dance Promotion Act as his top priorities, expressing his ambition to strengthen the institutional foundation of the dance community. Additionally, he pledged to ensure the sustainable operation of the association through gradual increases in the project budget, promote the domestic and international distribution of outstanding works and dancers, and devise cooperative measures between the Seoul and regional dance communities.


In his acceptance speech, Chairman Jo Nam-gyu expressed his determination, stating, "I will do my best for the sustainable development of the dance arts community and to complete the establishment of the National Dance Center, which has been pursued since 2018." Chairman Jo Nam-gyu’s term as the 24th chairman of the Korea Dance Association will last until January 2029.
