At the general meeting, about 120 members of the Lifelong Education Leaders Association attended, including Mayor Lee Gang-deok, City Council Chairman Kim Il-man, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council member Park Yong-seon, and City Council Economic and Industrial Committee Chairman Lim Ju-hee. They celebrated last year’s achievements and prepared to renew their determination.
Since 2009, Pohang has produced a total of 766 lifelong education leaders through the 13th training course last year. In addition, last year, the city achieved great success in the lifelong learning field, including winning awards in all categories (4 crowns) at the Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Awards and receiving the Excellence Award in the Gyeongbuk Province Lifelong Education Policy Evaluation.
In particular, Pohang secured the hosting rights for the 12th Gyeongbuk Province Lifelong Learning Expo scheduled for October this year, marking the first time in 10 years, and plans to make every effort to ensure the expo’s successful hosting.
At the general meeting, Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang shouted the vigorous slogan, “Let’s all unite and move forward!” to welcome the new year. About 120 association members displayed the city’s four-character idiom for this year, “Chonghwa Jeonjin (總和前進),” and performed a resolution ceremony together, attracting attention.
Kim Yong-jae, president of the Pohang Lifelong Education Leaders Association, said, “Last year, programs such as the Visiting Neighborhood Senior University and the Senior Abacus Competition received great responses, bringing us much fulfillment. We will work even harder to revitalize village lifelong education this year.”
Mayor Lee Gang-deok said, “Since the large-scale Gyeongbuk Province Lifelong Learning Expo is scheduled for this year, we will devote ourselves to the successful hosting of the event. We will strengthen public-private cooperation to create a lifelong learning city where citizens are happy and advance together with the Lifelong Education Leaders Association under the motto Chonghwa Jeonjin.”
