Seosan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 16th that four traditional markets and shopping districts in the region have been selected for the "2025 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support Project" hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
This public contest, established to boost the local economy, supports joint marketing by merchants' associations, improvement of business environments, and capacity building for traditional markets and shopping districts with basic capabilities.
The markets and shopping districts selected are Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market, Haemieupseong Traditional Market, Jungshim Shopping District, and Beonhwa 2-ro Shopping District.
Through this selection, the city has secured approximately 400 million KRW in national funding and plans to implement various projects targeting these four traditional markets and shopping districts.
For Seosan Dongbu Traditional Market, Jungshim Shopping District, and Beonhwa 2-ro Shopping District, a market management package support project will be carried out, allowing merchants' associations to autonomously implement projects that reflect the unique characteristics of their localities and commercial areas.
Haemieupseong Traditional Market will promote a cultural tourism-type market development project that maximizes the market's unique features and strengths, as well as a safety management package project to ensure the safety of the traditional market.
Through this project, Haemieupseong Traditional Market plans to create a rooftop garden within the market, develop specialized products, and renovate outdated electrical wiring in individual stores.
Beonhwa 2-ro Shopping District will implement a "First Step Foundation" initiative aimed at building customer trust, strengthening the capabilities of the shopping district, improving hygiene and the environment, marketing the commercial area, and upgrading infrastructure.
Mayor Lee Wanseop stated, "We will do our utmost to promote various projects for the revitalization of traditional markets and shopping districts through this selection," adding, "We will continue to develop and implement diverse strategies to take the lead in revitalizing traditional markets and shopping districts."
Meanwhile, the public contest for the Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support Project is divided into detailed projects such as market management packages, specialized market development, and safety management packages for each market and shopping district.
