Six Out of Ten Support Impeachment of President Yoon
Support for People Power Party Rises, Democratic Party Falls
Six out of ten citizens responded that President Yoon Suk-yeol should be impeached, according to a public opinion poll.
On the 16th, a nationwide indicator survey (NBS) conducted from the 13th to the 15th, targeting 1,005 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide via mobile phone interviews, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 19.6%, was released by Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research. Regarding President Yoon, who has been impeached, 59% responded that he should be dismissed by accepting the impeachment. Meanwhile, 36% said the impeachment should be dismissed and he should be reinstated. In terms of political orientation, 93% of respondents who identified as progressive and 71% of those who identified as moderate supported impeachment. Conversely, 72% of conservative respondents believed the impeachment should be dismissed.
Compared to last week's survey, the proportion of people who said the impeachment should be accepted and the president dismissed decreased by 3 percentage points, while those who said he should be reinstated increased by 3 percentage points.
Regarding the speed of the impeachment process, 66% said it should proceed quickly, while 32% said it should take time. Regarding President Yoon's response during the impeachment trial process, 33% responded positively, while 63% responded negatively.
Regarding the second arrest of President Yoon, which has already been executed, 59% of respondents said it should be carried out, while 38% said it should not.
Regarding suitability for the next president, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, was at 28%, Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor, at 13%, Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, at 8%, Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, at 6%, and Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, at 5%. Opposition candidates mentioned included Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, each at 3%.
Regarding the next presidential election, 48% responded that an opposition candidate should be elected for regime change, surpassing the 41% who said a ruling party candidate should be elected for regime continuation.
In party support, the People Power Party's support rate rose by 3 percentage points to 35%, while the Democratic Party's support rate fell by 3 percentage points to 33%. The National Innovation Party was at 8%, and the Reform New Party at 3%.
