A man who harbored resentment over a drunk driving crackdown and threatened police officers by bringing heavy equipment to a police substation was arrested.

The Haman Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that they had arrested Mr. A, a man in his 50s, on charges of drunk driving and obstruction of official duties.

According to the police, Mr. A is accused of driving an excavator to the Gaya Police Substation of Haman Police Station at around 3:26 a.m. on the 13th and threatening officers.

He threatened to damage a patrol car by raising the bucket of the excavator toward the entrance of the substation.

Thanks to the quick intervention of the on-duty police officers, there were no casualties or property damage.

Earlier, at around 2 a.m. that day, Mr. A was stopped by police who responded to a report of suspected drunk driving, stating that a vehicle was zigzagging on the road in front of a convenience store in Gaya-eup, Haman-gun.

At that time, Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.144%, indicating a state of severe intoxication.

However, he claimed that he had only driven about 100 meters and argued that it could not be considered drunk driving.

After being arrested, he stated that he committed the crime out of dissatisfaction with the drunk driving crackdown.

Shortly after the incident, his blood alcohol concentration was confirmed to be 0.163%, higher than at the time of the crackdown, but he also said he had not consumed any more alcohol in the meantime.

The police arrested Mr. A in flagrante delicto and immediately applied for an arrest warrant, which was issued on the 14th.
