President Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (HCID), prompting People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun to criticize, saying, "This is a result of the Democratic Party's dictatorship."
On the 16th, Lawmaker Yoon opened his statement on his social media account, saying, "President Yoon was ultimately arrested. We failed to stop the illegal hunting by hunters colluding with the Democratic Party." He added, "They hunted President Yoon with an illegal and unjust arrest warrant, an unlawful hunting permit. The law and procedures that were so loudly proclaimed were thoroughly trampled upon," and claimed, "This will remain a great stain in history."
He continued, "It has been proven to the whole world that the Democratic Party, which monopolizes the National Assembly, can trample independently on the three branches of government (legislative, judicial, executive) with impunity. What remains now is only the Democratic Party's dictatorship," and warned, "Unless this dictatorship collapses, precious values that have protected democracy such as debate, tolerance, criticism, and compromise will have no place. Only dictatorship by the majority will exist, and petty people who parasitize by clinging to that majority power will thrive, ultimately eroding the future of the Republic of Korea."
He further stated, "Violent one-man dictatorship that intimidates the people with guns and knives is not the only form of dictatorship. The coercive legislative dictatorship by the majority currently perpetrated by the Democratic Party is also dictatorship. Those who sympathize with such a Democratic Party are collaborators," and said, "We must stop their coercion and violence. We must fight to the end to end this vicious dictatorship."
Additionally, Lawmaker Yoon warned, "I clearly warn all collaborators who parasitize on the Democratic Party's dictatorship. All your unconstitutional and illegal actions, wagging your tails and barking while clinging to the power of the Democratic Party and its allied forces, will later become a sword of abuse of power aimed at your necks," and emphasized, "You are being used now to hunt President Yoon, but do not forget that once the hunt is over, the hunting dogs are inevitably devoured." He concluded, "I hope you carefully judge and act on what truly protects the rule of law in the Republic of Korea, even now. I and our people will watch you to the very end."
Earlier, on the 15th, the HCID and police deployed a large number of personnel and began executing the arrest warrant for President Yoon around 4:20 a.m. About 30 People Power Party lawmakers and lawyers formed a human chain to block the arrest and resisted for over an hour, but eventually, the third line of defense's iron gate was opened, and President Yoon's custody was secured. Immediately after the arrest, President Yoon boarded a security vehicle and was transported to the HCID office at the Government Complex Gwacheon in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province.
