Gwangju City announced on the 16th that it conducted a joint inspection of separate disposal labeling at two large-scale stores, including a department store and a hypermarket, on the 15th for the Lunar New Year holiday.

The city formed a joint inspection team in cooperation with the five autonomous districts and Korea Environment Corporation to carry out a joint inspection of separate disposal labeling on holiday gift sets among products and packaging materials subject to mandatory recycling.

The inspection team checked for compliance with separate disposal labeling requirements, including: ▲ absence of the required separate disposal mark ▲ proper use of the designated mark ▲ violation of minimum size (8mm width and height) ▲ inconsistency between actual material and indicated material. They also checked for unauthorized labeling without approval among items not subject to mandatory separate disposal labeling.

Failure to provide or falsely providing the separate disposal label may result in a fine of up to 3 million won.

Following the joint inspection on this day, Gwangju City plans to conduct another joint inspection of separate disposal labeling for the Lunar New Year at three large-scale stores on the 20th.

Jung Mikyung, head of the Resource Circulation Division, said, "Distributors must comply with the separate disposal labeling standards to encourage proper waste separation," and added, "We will continue to carry out inspections to improve the separate disposal rate of recyclable resources."
