Statement on Yoon's Arrest: "A Victory for the Citizens of Mokpo"
Emphasizes Resolution of Uncertainty and Starting Point for Economic Recovery
Urges Strict Investigation by CIO and Constitutional Court's Removal of President
Kim Won Lee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Mokpo, Jeonnam), released a statement on the 15th regarding the arrest of President Yoon Sukyeol, saying, "Although it comes late, I am relieved to see that public authority and justice are still alive," and added, "This is a victory for the citizens of Mokpo who gathered at Peace Square and called for the impeachment of Yoon Sukyeol despite the cold weather."
He continued, "The economy is already struggling. The suffering of small business owners and self-employed people, who are the backbone of our livelihood economy, is beyond words," and emphasized, "Fortunately, stock prices have been rising since the news of the arrest. The economy can only recover when uncertainty is resolved. The arrest and impeachment of Yoon Sukyeol are directly tied to the economy."
He stated, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials must detain and thoroughly investigate Yoon Sukyeol to uncover the full extent of the rebellion, and those responsible must be held strictly accountable," and urged, "The Constitutional Court should swiftly approve the impeachment and remove him from the presidency."
Regarding the Presidential Security Service, he criticized, "During the arrest process, they acted as Yoon Sukyeol's private soldiers, causing public outrage," and added, "The Security Service must bear heavy responsibility for this."
Kim concluded, "Until the day Yoon Sukyeol is removed from office, and until all those involved in the conspiracy are legally punished, I will stand with the citizens of Mokpo," and appealed, "Let us unite our strength until the very end."
