Active Response Until February 7 Ahead of Seollal Holiday
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Commissioner Lee Myungjun) announced on the 15th that, in celebration of Seollal, it will launch a special crackdown on serious crimes and crimes threatening public livelihood until February 7 to create a safer society for the people.
The main targets of the crackdown include organized crime, sex crimes, other serious offenses, illegal fishing activities in various sea areas due to increased seafood distribution before and after Seollal, illegal boarding of vessels and seafood theft within village fishing grounds, human rights violations against maritime workers, advance payment fraud, and fishing vessel sales scams.
In particular, with the increase in the operation of passenger ships and other multi-use vessels during this period, the agency also plans to apprehend individuals who have evaded prosecution and those who threaten maritime safety.
Additionally, the agency will designate vulnerable time periods at ports and harbors for intensive criminal enforcement, and will establish a dedicated investigation task force, including members from the regional investigation unit, investigation and criminal teams, patrol vessels, and police substations, to conduct comprehensive crackdowns.
Commissioner Lee Myungjun stated, "We plan to actively respond to crimes occurring both at sea and on land so that the public can spend a safe and peaceful Seollal holiday," and added, "If you are a victim or witness illegal activities, please report them to the nearest Coast Guard station."
