Changwon Special City Donates Relief Funds for Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster

Changwon City Employees Deliver Condolences to Sister City Mokpo, Jeollanam-do
Through Voluntary Fundraising

On the 15th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam visited its sister city Mokpo to deliver approximately 14 million KRW in donations raised by Changwon city employees to support the victims of the Jeju Air disaster.

The donation ceremony was attended by Jang Geum-yong, the 1st Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, and Park Hong-ryul, the Mayor of Mokpo, who expressed their condolences and sympathy to the victims' families.

During the national mourning period, Changwon Special City and the Changwon Special City Public Officials Labor Union conducted a voluntary fundraising campaign involving all city employees to assist the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. The collected funds will be used through the Korean Red Cross to support the families of the victims in Mokpo affected by the Jeju Air disaster.

Changwon city voluntarily participated in the fundraising campaign upon hearing the heartbreaking news that 14 residents of Mokpo, with which it has maintained a sister city relationship for over 30 years, lost their lives.

In 2003, Mokpo city provided relief supplies and recovery personnel to Changwon city (formerly Masan city) after it suffered significant damage from Typhoon Maemi.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, conveyed his condolences, saying, “I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims and their families who lost precious lives in this tragic accident. I hope that the small sincerity of Changwon city employees will help heal the hearts of the victims' families as soon as possible.”
