Lee Jae-myung on Yoon's Arrest: "Now It's Time to Focus on People's Livelihood and Economy"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 15th that "Now is the time to quickly restore constitutional order and focus on the livelihood and economy" following the execution of an arrest warrant against President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of 'treason.'

Lee made these remarks to reporters immediately after concluding a party caucus meeting at the National Assembly that morning. When a reporter asked for his comment on President Yoon's arrest, he described it as "a truly regrettable matter" but emphasized the need to attend to the livelihood and economy. He did not respond separately to the message President Yoon released via video.

On the same day, the Democratic Party reportedly discussed focusing on fact-finding related to the December 3 emergency martial law incident during the caucus meeting. Kang Yoo-jung, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters after the meeting, "There are important stages remaining in the process of suppressing and ending the treason," adding, "The appointment of Constitutional Court justices, the arrest and detention of President Yoon, the special investigation law on treason, and the national investigation on treason must proceed."

Spokesperson Kang also stated, "The appointment of Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court justice candidate remains pending," and "Although a hurdle was overcome today with the execution of the arrest warrant, there were opinions that a detention warrant should be issued and detention should follow."
