Extension of Free Electric Vehicle Inspections and Fire Damage Support... Hyundai Motor Strengthens Customer Care

Free Inspection Period Extended to 10 Years
Up to 10 Billion KRW Support for Fire and Other Damages

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are strengthening electric vehicle customer management by extending the free inspection period and items, and providing up to 10 billion KRW in compensation for third-party property damage in case of fire.

On the 15th, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia announced that they will expand electric vehicle customer management in this way.

First, the services that were previously conducted separately as basic vehicle inspection and electric vehicle safety inspection will be integrated and operated together. This allows for a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle overall and key electric vehicle components in one go.

The service items focus on high-voltage battery-related systems and battery cooling systems, selecting inspection items suitable for each model. The free inspection period has also been extended to 10 years, two years longer than before.

The 'Connected Car Service (CCS) Light' will also be enhanced. CCS Light is a service included in the 5-year free + subscription plan. It provides the full CCS service free of charge for five years from the initial subscription date, and then offers certain connected functions related to vehicle safety?such as ▲SOS emergency dispatch ▲automatic airbag deployment notification ▲traffic information?for an additional five years free of charge.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have added an electric vehicle battery monitoring function to the CCS Light service. If a warning or caution signal is detected inside the electric vehicle battery, the Hyundai remote support center and Kia customer center emergency room notify the customer.

Previously, some older electric vehicles that were not covered by the CCS Light service or those whose free service period had expired will now receive the service for up to 10 years from the initial delivery date, subject to customer consent.

An electric vehicle fire safety program has also been newly established. It provides up to 10 billion KRW in support for third-party property damage caused by electric vehicle fires. Eligible models include Hyundai (including Genesis) and Kia passenger, commercial, and business-use electric vehicles within 10 years of delivery (based on the accident date).

Through this program, fire accident victims (excluding the vehicle owner who caused the fire) can receive compensation for property damage related to ▲vehicle repair costs ▲vehicle residual value ▲replacement vehicle fees ▲rental fees during downtime ▲building and facility restoration costs ▲business loss of buildings.

Additionally, if the damage is confirmed, support for victims’ housing costs and car rental expenses is also available. Furthermore, the vehicle owner who caused the fire can receive support for expenses related to the electric vehicle fire (such as litigation fees, attorney fees, and mediation costs).

However, support is not provided for damages caused by ▲natural disasters ▲single-vehicle accidents ▲fraudulent or intentional accidents ▲accidents occurring during motorsports or races ▲vehicle modifications such as battery alterations, and damages within the limits of automobile insurance compensation. Also, the program does not apply if the fire cause is found to be negligence by third parties such as charging operators.
