Gangdong-gu to Complete Design in Cooperation with Seoul by Year-End
Step-by-Step Development to Begin with Compensated Land
Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 16th that it plans to complete the design for the first phase of the Amsa History Park construction project, which is being promoted in cooperation with Seoul City, by the end of this year.
The Amsa History Park project involves converting a total area of 110,198㎡ around the Amsa-dong prehistoric site into a park. According to the district, since the park was first designated in 2006, compensation for private land has been underway, and as of this month, compensation has been completed for 87.9% (96,884㎡) of the total area. The district had already developed parts of the park, including an outdoor stage and picnic plaza, on 16,798㎡ of land compensated in 2019.
Originally aimed for full completion by 2026, the project faced difficulties in securing large-scale compensation funds. The district has actively sought breakthroughs, including receiving national funding through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Greenbelt Resident Support Project. Additionally, through consultations with Seoul City, the plan is to develop the park in phases starting with the land where compensation has been completed.
For the first phase, a site of approximately 18,000㎡ in the southeast part of the park, expected to see high usage due to the opening of the Amsa History Park Station on Subway Line 8, was selected. To support the first phase, the district secured 2 billion KRW last year by applying to the Korea Forest Service’s ‘Climate Response Urban Forest Creation’ contest and plans to raise additional funds through the Greenbelt Support Project and other means.
The district plans to start the design service this year as soon as the basic plan being established by Seoul City is finalized and complete the first phase of the park next year. The excavation of buried cultural heritage, which must precede construction according to relevant laws, is also progressing smoothly.
Lee Hyun-sam, head of the Green City Division of Gangdong-gu, said, "Starting with the completion of the first phase of Amsa History Park, we will proceed swiftly in stages," adding, "We will strive to ensure that Amsa History Park in Gangdong-gu becomes a key park in the southeastern area of Seoul that residents anticipate."
