On the 14th, Lee Hyun-jae, Mayor of Hanam City, stated at a dialogue with residents of Gam-il-dong held at the Gam-il Public Complex that regarding the administrative appeal filed by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) against the denial of the expansion of the Dongseoul Substation, “We will take measures according to procedures, but we will do our utmost to reflect the opinions of the residents as much as possible.”

Previously, Hanam City had denied the indoor construction and expansion project of the Dongseoul Substation in August last year, citing the issue that KEPCO finalized the expansion site without gathering residents’ opinions despite the power equipment capacity increasing 3.5 times due to the construction of the HVDC converter station.
KEPCO filed an administrative appeal in September last year, and Hanam City submitted supplementary documents of 600 and 230 pages. Mayor Lee Hyun-jae personally attended the oral hearing to explain the validity of the denial, doing his best, but the Gyeonggi-do Administrative Appeals Commission accepted KEPCO’s appeal in December last year.
Mayor Lee said, “The expansion of the Dongseoul Substation was finally decided in January 2022, and since then, residents raised many issues. We issued a denial of the indoor construction and expansion project of the Dongseoul Substation in September last year after collecting opinions, but we lost the case in the Gyeonggi-do administrative appeal, which weighs heavily on me as mayor,” and emphasized, “We will continue to carefully collect and reflect the policy opinions given by the residents.”
He added, “Some people have misunderstood by quoting certain remarks, and we will pay more attention to prevent any misunderstandings.”
Additionally, Hanam City explained the major current status of facilities in the Gam-il district on the same day.
A Hanam City official said, “The Gam-il Bangadari-gil connecting road is currently in final consultation with Korea Expressway Corporation and is planned to open in June,” and introduced, “The Oryun Intersection connecting road is scheduled to open in March after completing paving and other processes.”
He continued, “Gam-il Neighborhood Park No. 3 is equipped with a water playground, soccer field, futsal court, basketball court, jokgu court, and a dog playground. It is in the final stage of handover negotiations with LH, and we plan to complete the handover through a preliminary inspection in March and open it to the public.”
During the Q&A session, regarding follow-up measures on the court ruling related to the illegal resale allegations of a religious site in the Gam-il district and the construction of a specific religious building, Mayor Lee responded, “Once we obtain the court ruling, we will consult with experts to review response measures.”
Regarding the request to hold a session to address residents’ questions ahead of the groundbreaking of the tentatively named Gam-il Baekje Museum, he said, “We will take measures to hold a residents’ briefing session.”
