Korail Transfers Korean Railway Technology to Paraguay

South Korea's advanced railway technology is being introduced to Paraguay in South America.

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 14th that it has been selected as the executing agency for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Official Development Assistance (ODA) project, the "Paraguay Transportation Management Capacity Building Project," and will conduct a training program for invited officials next month.

This project was promoted to establish a cooperative foundation for transportation infrastructure development, including railways, in the Latin American region. Six Paraguayan transportation officials will participate in the training.

The training focuses on sharing Korea's railway and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies and building cooperative relationships. In particular, a theoretical and practical program on railway transportation management technology has been designed to effectively apply Korea's railway system to Paraguay's railway operations.

KORAIL plans to establish a network base with Paraguay through this training and expand opportunities for discovering new railway projects and participating in them via business meetings with related companies.

Last year, as part of the "Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Panama Order Support Team," KORAIL visited Panama to discuss participation in railway projects, thereby expanding its cooperative foundation in the Latin American region. Recently, Latin American countries including Paraguay, Honduras, and Panama have shown great interest in improving aging transportation infrastructure and expanding railway networks.

Kim Won-eung, head of KORAIL's Overseas Business Headquarters, said, "This invited training is an important opportunity to introduce Korea's railway technology to the Latin American market," and added, "We will make every effort to prepare the training so that it can serve as a foothold for future business expansion."
