According to Yeoju City on the 14th, the boarding-type prestigious school development project is an initiative started in the second half of 2022 as a campaign pledge of Mayor Lee Chung-woo in the 8th local government term. The goal is to provide excellent students in the region with high-quality educational services comparable to those in Seoul or the metropolitan area, without having to leave the area.

In 2023, through the boarding-type prestigious school development and support public contest project, Yeoju City selected Yeogang High School and supported 4 billion KRW for dormitory facility investment, planning to admit dormitory students starting this March. This is expected to greatly contribute to creating a study-friendly environment and improving the quality of education.

Additionally, Yeoju City provides an annual 100 million KRW educational capacity enhancement program operation support fund to three schools: Yeogang High School, Daesin High School, and Yeoju Jeil High School. These schools actively operate academic improvement programs tailored to their characteristics, such as special lectures by external instructors and customized interview special lectures for students, using the support funds. As a result, in the 2025 academic year college entrance, they achieved notable outcomes, including four admissions to Seoul National University and numerous admissions to major departments in metropolitan and regional national universities.

Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju said, “The education pledge of the 8th local government term is greatly contributing to providing students with quality educational opportunities and enhancing the educational competitiveness of the local community.” He added, “We will continue to further develop the support project after 2026 based on regular performance analysis and feedback.”
