Free Parking at Public Lots Extended to 24 Hours on Saturdays
Total of 30 Locations with 517 Spaces, Expected to Ease Parking Shortages in Nearby Residential Areas
Public Parking Lots Open Free 24 Hours During Lunar New Year Holiday, January 25 to 30
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that starting from January this year, public on-street parking lots will be open free of charge 24 hours on Saturdays to improve parking conditions and enhance residents' convenience.
Previously, public on-street parking lots operated on a paid basis from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, while being free during other hours as well as on Sundays and public holidays.
The district has improved this system by offering free parking all day on Saturdays starting this year to increase parking convenience. However, the free parking hours on weekdays and Sundays/public holidays remain unchanged.
The parking lots subject to this free opening include 30 locations with 517 spaces, located in ▲ Yeoui-dong (26 locations) ▲ Yeongdeungpo-dong (1 location) ▲ Mullae-dong (1 location) ▲ Singil 1-dong (2 locations), among others. Detailed locations can be checked on the public parking bulletin board on the Yeongdeungpo-gu Facilities Management Corporation website.
The district expects that this project will allow nearby residents and visitors to use the parking lots more conveniently. In particular, it is anticipated to alleviate severe parking difficulties in residential areas such as Yeoui-dong, improve parking accessibility, and contribute to revitalizing the local commercial districts.
Additionally, by adopting a five-day workweek, the district plans to improve the working conditions of on-site parking management workers and gradually expand the installation of unmanned control systems to enhance the efficiency and convenience of parking lot operations.
Along with this, last year the district significantly improved residents' daily convenience by implementing various projects to resolve parking difficulties, including opening 7 new attached parking lots (136 spaces), creating 5 resident-priority parking lots (63 spaces) using leftover land, and installing 12 priority parking spaces for national veterans.
During the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday period (January 25 to 30), public on-street parking lots will be open free of charge 24 hours a day to provide parking convenience for returning visitors and residents.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Parking conditions are an important factor that affects residents' quality of life, and I hope this project will serve as an opportunity to practically resolve inconveniences in residents' daily lives. We will continue to discover various policies to alleviate parking difficulties.”
