Another Milestone After Becoming the First K-pop Song to Surpass 1 Billion Streams on Spotify
The group BTS's digital single "Dynamite" has set another major record by surpassing 2 billion streams on Spotify.
On the 14th, their agency Big Hit Music announced that BTS's digital single "Dynamite," released on August 21, 2020, achieved 2 billion streams on the world's largest music streaming platform, Spotify, as of January 12. This marks the first time a K-pop group’s single song has exceeded 2 billion streams on Spotify.
"Dynamite" received a warm response from the moment of its release, becoming the first Korean artist to enter Spotify's "Daily Top Songs Global" chart at number one. It also set the record for the most streams on the first day and was the first K-pop song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The song has become a representative achievement of BTS's global success. Through "Dynamite," BTS became the first Korean artist to top the US Billboard main singles chart, the "Hot 100," and became the K-pop artist to hold the number one spot on that chart for the longest period. Additionally, they attracted worldwide attention as the first Korean artist nominated for the "Grammy Awards," one of the four major US music award ceremonies. On Japan's Oricon chart, they set another record as the first overseas artist to achieve 800 million streams for a single song.
Composed in the lively Disco Pop genre, "Dynamite" features an addictive rhythm and cheerful yet dynamic performance, and even four years after its release, it continues to be loved and has become a classic hit. Last year, it was included in the "The 100 Best Hit Songs of the Century So Far," selected by the US entertainment media UPROXX, and its music video surpassed 1.9 billion views on BTS's YouTube channel, maintaining steady popularity.
