Through this agreement, Eunpyeong-gu will switch from the previous paid treatment of woody waste to a free treatment method that utilizes it as eco-friendly renewable energy. This effort aims to use approximately 2,000 tons of woody waste annually as renewable energy for power plants, such as wood chips and wood pellets.

The change in treatment method is expected to reduce the annual treatment cost of woody waste by 180 million KRW, serving as a measure to practice carbon neutrality.

Mayor Kim Mi-kyung stated, “This agreement to change the treatment method of woody waste in the district will significantly contribute to creating a sustainable Eunpyeong by reducing treatment costs and practicing carbon neutrality.” She added, “We will continue to support leading a circular economy and creating an eco-friendly city, Eunpyeong, by making good use of the district’s natural resources.”
